Oh, man is it that time of year already?! It's getting near  Christmas so the whole entertainment landscape is starting to change in Newcastle. Theatre  especially, has got into the festive spirit with all the panto's and Christmas  themed shows. Local musicians are releasing charity singles, and collaborating  on charity albums, because that's the kind of people we are up here! So before  I go ahead with what's on, I'll just let you know about some great music you  can buy, and at the same time, raise money for a good cause. Tiny Lights Recordings  has gathered local musicians together to  record ‘Silent Night, Tiny Lights’, released on 16th November  which features a host of new Christmas songs and a few old festive  classics. There’s a host of awesome contributors to the album, including Playlounge, Fawn Spots, The Union Choir, Tissue Culture, The Railway Club, John Egdell, The  Lake Poets, Natasha Haws and many more. I've got it and its really rather go

About the Blog This blog is a work in progress, the format is going to evolve when I work out exactly how it and the radio show are going to fit together to give you a taste of what's on in Newcastle (and anywhere else I end up, I get around!). I was tearing my hair out a little yesterday when I realised how long I had spent looking things up and putting them on here. Then I came back to rationality and realised...anyone can do a listings website, if they have staff and loads of man hours. Newcastle has too much on for one woman to handle alone. This is more than a listings site. Its about what I find interesting about Newcastle, the variety of things to do. I'm sharing the things that really catch my eye, or ear, or imagination. And it means anything I mention on NE1 FM can be looked up on here. Click the pink links for websites, booking pages, band facebook pages.   Try something different, go somewhere new. if I help you do that, I'm a happy blogger . Tweet me @jow

Theatre Review: "Dim Sum Nights" at Northern Stage

Image
I'm jumping straight onto the laptop as I come in from Northern Stage here! "Dim Sum" more correctly "Dim Sim" means "touch the heart", and is (as our waitress/narrator informs us) the small tasty morsels of food, dumplings, filo pastry parcels served with tea as breakfast, brunch, lunch, depending how long you sit chatting! Yellow Earth Theatre brings both dim sum, in the form of tasty snacks and tea, and in the form of short pieces of theatre, written by Asian playwrights . These little stories are played out with humour in a very intimate setting, you really feel part of the show. Bringing together 3 directors, 4 writers and 5 actors to create an interesting buffet of storytelling and entertainment. Tina Chiang welcomes the audience to the show and is, in this role,as"Butterfly" an engaging and funny waitress with an axe to grind, is like sticky rice, bringing all the other dramatic "dishes" together, The dar
